Cashew Milk: The How & Why to Make your Own

Are you frustrated with all of the milk-alternatives that you find in the store? Are you buying store bought almond milk, cashew milk or soy milk of some kind & haven’t gotten around to reading the ingredients label yet?

I did, & realized the grocery store shelf doesn’t offer anything I’m willing to put in my body. So, I created my own recipe for Cashew Milk as an alternative. & Here’s Why:

The added ingredients in these products are so unhealthy for us and our digestive systems & ultimately only have one benefit to the product…. They offer no added nutritional value, they don’t make the milk taste any better and they sure don’t help your digestive system any. If you see any added ingredients in your nut milk, soy milk, coconut milk, cashew milk , flax seed and hemp milks…. You must know that the companies only add these ingredients for their own benefit. They are used to make the milk look more like MILK. They bind the ingredients together keeping them mixed (Why can’t we just shake it before pouring?), they preserve the ‘milk’ & they play havoc on your digestive tract.

If you’re putting anything in your body that your digestive system can’t recognize as ‘food’ you are going to initiate a cascade of problems within your own body. & you might not notice it right away but overtime the amount of additives builds and the more you can avoid them whenever possible, the better.

Think of it this way… additives and unnecessary ingredients are EVERYWHERE in our food these days & almost impossible to avoid. When you buy anything processed, packaged or altered to maintain its shelf life, these hidden ingredients are in there. I’m talking about CARRAGEENAN, XANTHAM GUM, TAPIOCA STARCH, SUNFLOWER LECITHIN, GELLAN GUM, LOCUST BEAN GUM, ACACIA GUM …. & the list goes on and on.

You can read more about carrageenan in my Almond Milk post HERE.

Moral of the story… Follow this one simple rule & you’ll be alright.

Some products may have ALL of the above mentioned ingredients on one list. Don’t Buy it.

Some products may have only one or two… Consider Buying it if all of the other ingredients are REAL, pure, simple, and up to your standards.

But, if you begin to realize that EVERYTHING your buying has one or more of these ingredients on every label you read…

Then Consider This:

All food additives are approved Harrison Barnes Youth Jerseys by the FDA to be used in our food as they have been deemed as “SAFE” Eric Reid Youth Jerseys at a certain level for the consumer. However, NO ONE is studying the overall effect when you are consuming this “safe” ingredient at a “safe” level in more than one product.

So, why not just avoid all unnecessary additives whenever possible?

That’s exactly what inspired me to make my own cashew milk. I use it in my coffee, with Jordan Howard Jerseys a bowl of granola topped with fresh fruit and even in my oats.

& it’s SO EASY! no need for cheese cloth or messy straining techniques compared to Almond Milk. ( I love the taste of it, but let’s be real, the process is a bit of a headache!)

Here’s the Recipe:

I’ve even included links to my favorite products I use in my Kitchen!

  1. FIRST: soak 1 cup of cashews in 1 cup of clean water while you're gathering your supplies. (The longer you let the cashews soak the smoother they'll blend but no need to soak them for any longer than an hour... 10 minutes will do just fine too!)
  2. THEN: rinse the soaked cashews, discard the water.
  3. NEXT: add all ingredients to the blender. & BLEND.
  4. It's that easy! No mess, no straining required, the 'cashew milk' mixture should be smooth, creamy & ready to use!
  5. Store in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 5 days.
