Notice how I didn’t say “…so I made myself cookies”. There’s a difference there. I didn’t make myself cookies as a reward for my “hard day”. I made myself cookies because they’re a solution to one of the reasons why my day was so hard.
My 4 month old kid is going through a major growth spurt and I need to increase my caloric intake during the day in order to boost my milk supply. I’m struggling to keep up with his needs because I’ve recently had to cut eggs and dairy out of my diet for his sake. (I’ll tell you more about this later) my dietary changes have already made a difference for him and it’s totally worth it.
Long story short – I already can’t eat gluten because of my own allergy, intolerance to it. So, with gluten, dairy and eggs now being out of the picture as of two weeks ago – I’m struggling to eat enough during the day to stay in a caloric excess.
It’s a huge priority of mine. Nutrient dense foods are so important and I’ve upped my smoothie game as well with added plant based protein. But at the end of the day, these cookies we’re exactly what I needed.
My best friend made them for me when I was 4 weeks post partum and not only were they a delicious treat but I noticed an immediate difference in my supply as well. So here we go again. Anyone can eat them – they just have beneficial ingredients like flax seed, oats and brewers yeast to help increase milk supply in those of us that need it.
They also happen to be vegan and gluten free too. WIN … WIN.
I didn’t come up with the recipe, but this link will take you there.
I did however make the cookies & just the sheer process of measuring and stirring and scooping and baking in complete silence while the kid slept upstairs in the snoo was exactly what I needed to end my day – in silence, did I already say that? 🙂 – with the smell of cookies in the air.
Craving something sweet? Make these cookies.
Need to boost your milk supply? Make these cookies.
Like Chocolate Chip Cookies but looking for a vegan recipe? Make these cookies.
you get the point.
Here’s a few of the products I used:
- Certified organic and gluten free oat flour and oats from Thrive Market.
- I found gluten free brewers yeast on Amazon, the brand is OatMama
- Instead of “chocolate chips” I chopped up my favorite dark chocolate bar from AlterEco
here’s to knowing that tomorrow is a different day. Heading to bed & wishing you all a great week ahead.
