It might not be the chocolate bar or gooey fudge dessert you might be thinking of… But, I promise it’s delicious.
I’m talking chocolate…. as in pure, raw, superfood, Cacao Powder. The richest, most flavorful, most nutritious chocolate you can buy.
For this smoothie I wanted something richer than my average fruit & vegetable blend, so I got creative with cacao powder that I usually have on hand just use to make the oh so delicious Sweet Potato Brownies that I love to make. You can get that recipe: HERE.
…or you can keep reading for this great superfood chocolate smoothie recipe.
(of note…. this is not your regular, highly processed, “cocoa powder”)
Cacao is amazing! nutrient rich! & so flavorful! & It’s simple… it’s just the ground down version of the cacao bean with nothing else added… just like coffee comes from the coffee bean. Not to be confused with the highly-processed “cocoa” powder that’s packed with so many additional additives and chemicals and pretty much all the benefit of the cacao bean is lost.
Cacao is packed full of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals your body needs! Plus, it’s chocolate, so what’s not to like about it 🙂
In just one serving (2 tbsp) 100% pure cacao powder is loaded with… 14% of your daily manganese, 41%copper, 11% potassium, 11% zinc,6% iron, 15% selenium and 31% magnesium.
Not to mention it’s a great energy booster.
When people ask me what I think about daily multi-vitamins… my response is always the same. If you’re eating right and taking in all the right nutrients through your food, an expensive daily multivitamin isn’t necessary. However, if you haven’t figured out how to incorporate all the nutrients into your daily routine…. then a high-quality daily multi vitamin can’t hurt! It’s all in how you want to approach it… but in my eyes… drinking a delicious chocolate smoothie packed with so many nutrients is way more enjoyable (& not to mention delicious) compared to swallowing a pill!
